“Souk aal Souk” farmer’s market aims at promoting organic and healthy food of local farmers and small producers from different Lebanese areas. It intends to build and strengthen linkages between urban residents and rural producers by offering city residents access to healthy traditional food, and direct contact with the producers.

The market was established in 2013 in collaboration with the Environment and Sustainable Development Unit of the American University of Beirut, and supported by Waterfront City Cares. Training sessions on food safety and food handling, organic farming and good agricultural practices were organized and delivered to the market participants.

The Food Heritage Foundation is now driving this farmers’ market to academic institutions in order to promote healthy and traditional eating among students. Souk aal Souk is organized on a monthly basis at AUB upon persisting demands from the academic and student community. It has also visited other universities such as Haigazian, LAU Beirut and AUST Ashrafieh, and schools like ACS.
