Ending the academic year on a healthy note

SAS is hosted by AUB every month

FHF’s Souk aal Souk – Farmers’ Market (SAS) ended its activities for the 2017-2018 academic year with the Summer souk that was organized in AUB’s faculty of agriculture on May 3rd. Souk aal Souk – Farmers’ Market which aims at promoting local, healthy and organic food among students and faculty/school members, has launched its activities for this year in October 2017 with two souks organized at the American University of Beirut where it is held on a monthly basis, and at the American Community School in Beirut.

SAS in LAU – Koreytem (April 2018)

SAS offers small-scale food producers and artisans the opportunity to get in touch with the new generations by visiting schools and universities.

The souk which was established back in 2013 with only 10 producers, hosts today and on a regular basis around 20 offering a wide range of products varying from home-made pastries and traditional sweets, mouneh (jams, pickles, kishk, zaatar, dry fruits etc.), distillates, fresh juices and lemonades, manakish prepared on the saj, organic fruits and vegetables, honey, locally made organic chocolate, vegan food etc. Hand-made artifacts and accessories such as jewelry, carpets, rugs and soaps also have their share in the market.

This year, new producers have joined the market and have become regular participants.

Hoping to visit more schools and reach out for more students next year, SAS will be working through summer on the educational activities that it offers to students and on creating new linkages and collaborations to give healthy and local food a priority and make it accessible to the new generations.

SAS supports micro food businesses like Nutshell peanut butter and spreads 🙂
